Now that the Battle of Winterfell is over, fans are left wondering who will do the dirty deed of taking out the Queen, Cersei. Speculation that Arya Stark will do the honors has been swirling since she valiantly came out of nowhere for a dramatic Night King takedown. But maybe Arya’s seconds of fame are over, and it’s time for her sister, Sansa Stark, to step in.
In Sunday night’s fourth episode of “Game of Thrones" season 8, fans looked on sadly as Missandei, Daenerys’s beloved advisor, is brutally tortured and beheaded. Missandei's final word was, "Dracarys," a word usually uttered by Dany while ordering her dragons to essentially burn everything to the ground. The killing clearly sparked a fury in Dany, leaving viewers to believe that she is now further inclined to kill the Queen, and possibly take down anything in her path.
However, Dany’s fury might not bode well for her chances of taking the throne. Should her grief and anguish drive her to insanity, the people that have grown to fight alongside her could be inclined to take matters into their own hands in an effort to save innocent civilians who could be harmed in the wake of Dany’s revenge.
That’s where Sansa could come in. Cersei was predicted to become a queen only until there was “another, younger and more beautiful, to cast you down and take all that you hold dear,” according to a witch in the woods.
While all signs pointed to Dany for a long time, her potential turn to insanity could leave Sansa as the only remaining contender – the one Cersei won’t see coming.
Sure, Dany has fire and dragons - well, a dragon - on her side, but Sansa’s got the wit to outsmart the Queen, which could be the plot twist Westeros needs right now.
Despite the theories, it's clear that everyone who fought fearlessly to take down the Night King and his army were in need of a little pick-me-up after a long night of fighting - which could explain the coffee cup that sharp-eyed viewers spotted in Sunday's episode. The tweets around the to-go cup range from furious to hysterical, with most people concerned about how on earth a Starbucks barista would spell Daenerys.
