Watch: TNT's Kenny Smith Walks Off Set in Solidarity With NBA Players

August 26, 2020

Emotions were running high inside the NBA’s bubble in Orlando on Wednesday as players decided against competing in Wednesday’s playoff games as a form of protest over the shooting of Jacob Blake.

That extended into the TV studio as well, where Kenny Smith – an analyst on TNT’s “Inside the NBA” and former player – shared that pain and emotion with everyone else.

So much so, Smith got up and walked off the set on live TV in solidarity with the players.

I think the biggest thing now is kinda – as a Black man and as a former player – I think it’s best for me to support to players and not be here tonight,” he said as he removed his microphone. “I just don’t feel equipped to be here.”

The Toronto Raptors were among the first to publicly consider boycotting their playoff game against the Celtics on Thursday and began a dialogue with Boston in joining them.

Yet, it was the Milwaukee Bucks, who decided against taking the court on Wednesday against the Magic that led to a ripple effect of the rest of the teams declining to play, as well as the Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds in baseball.

NBA players are expected to meet Wednesday night inside the bubble to discuss what happens next and some reportedly believe that the season could be in jeopardy.
